Re: Desertmarksmen 1k yd match Sat 1-31-15
It was crazy. The wind was blowing consistently, averaging about 12 mph and the strongest gust I picked up on my Kestrel was 31.7 mph. There was about 40 people there. My Dad and I were lucky, he was in the first rely and I was in the second.
You guys should come out for some long range shooting. You're laying on your belly shooting, but trying to gauge the wind is extremely difficult! At the shooting line the wind is blowing at your face. At the first flag, 400 yards out, the wind was blowing hard right. At the second flag, 700 yards out, I couldn't figure out the wind call. It would be flat then pick up and blow anywhere from 6 to 2 o'clock. Then at the berm, 60 yards behind the targets the dirt was blowing to the left.
For the 308 class my Dad placed first and it was his first match ever and I placed second. We both were STOKED!

The wind snapped off two target frame holders rendering them useless at which point the match was called and guessing the wind was more challenging than I ever imagined but had a great time.
I did take 3rd in the 30 cal class beginners luck after reviewing my target holding left a half a target would have resulted in a higher score for sure did I mention it was a 300y F CLASS TARGET pasted up for everyone not sure why it was used but what a day

Re: Desertmarksmen 1k yd match Sat 1-31-15
Chris the reason for using the smaller targets is because too many people were shooting it clean , that & every other 1k yd match I have shot uses the 1/2 Moa x ring.... It's much more challenging using the correct size targets.
