That is a bolt gun. Although I vote that he shoot it ugly. Pretty or not, bring it to the range and shoot it because that's what will make you better. I still shoot like shit but I'd shoot even worse if i didn't get out there and shoot with the likes of Randall and the rest.

It’s not about shooting an ugly gun, hell I don't care about that.. The gun is what I consider wet.. its not dry and there is no seal on it, if I get it dirty, greasy, anything happens to it I’ll have to start all over again.. As much as I would love the trigger time and to have the opportunity to meet a few more team members I’m just going to have to pass on this one..

Again I’m sorry, I’m just thinking long term here, If I don't screw it up I’ll have this thing finished this week and I’ll be good to go..

Sorry team..

In my opinion painted guns look much better with lots of scratches on them. I've considered painting a few of my guns and dragging them behind my truck for 1 mile to get the used in battle effect on them. I haven't done it because I see it as a waste of time. I used to be all about the way my guns looked even if it did mean a compromise in function. This club has broken me of that. Now I just want a gun that shoots where I point it. I have a almost $6k gun that has rustoleum sprayed on the barreled action. Every few matches it gets a fresh coat to protect the finish since its not stainless. If you don't plan to scratch that thing or get it dirty ill suggest you buy another gun to actually shoot. JMHO

Just get out and shoot it already. The guys beating your butt in matches could really care less what everyone else's guns look like. I learned that too! Build for function... not looks and most importantly build it to shoot it!!!!

Scavenge up 60 rounds of Federal Gold Medal Match 223 ammo with either 69gr or 77gr bullets and I have a loaner gun... ;)

I am very aware of scratches on my gun... I know because I put some of them on it to show James how good the paint sticks. Really don't worry about your paint it will just chip of.

Targets and the course of fire are pretty much done.
Round count is 50.
Due to the number of people signed up, we are going to print out the course of fire and a schedule for the day and hand that out when you sign up.
This should reduce time spent explaining things and help us to get done before 1pm.
Please keep your course of fire sheet handy and always be ready for the next stage so we can try to keep to the schedule.
We are going to put two shooters in each lane between benches so be prepared to share your space.
We will shoot as odd and even groups so only one shooter will be shooting at each position at a time.
The two shooters will swap back and forth per the printed schedule.

I don't do any of those things.

Brutal. Hope this goes smoothly with so many people lol... Good idea on the printed course of fire though, keep the explanation time to nearly nothing and just be ready to shoot.

LOL even though we all know its bound to happen it still makes me cringe at the thought of you showing me how cheap the paint is on a freshly painted stock with a staple gun haha I would've believed you if you just told me man

Randall and Brad,

After shooting TBRC I would really like to see us push the setup and shot par times. When your name is called you have 30 - 60 sec to ready then short par time to shoot the course.

I think that works for us but we have to remember we are also trying to attract newbies as well. Maybe 1st relay needs to be Vets with 30-45sec prep time and 2nd relay can be newbies with 45-60sec plus the benefit of watching the vets shoot the COF first ????

I was going to say ... the reduced time limit is fine if you don't mind us new guys just lobbing bullets down range willy nilly.

When I started cowboy shooting this is how I did it too. I would position myself in the last 3/4 of the line up to fire so I could watch the vets run the stage and go over firing procedure in my head a few times to lock it in.

Finally got all my mods done just in time for the match.... Had the weekend from hell with Randall trying to install a break on my Tikka and I think Randall hates me now  Also got my new extended bolt handle and knob which are a gigantic improvement over the stock stuff. Painted the stock and barrel and all is looking good. Excited for this weekend and hoping and non-suckage...

2 hours making a custom block to hold the Tikka action.
1 hour trying to get the barrel off with no success.
1 hour fashioning custom bushing and trying again to get the barrel off and calling the Tikka expert with no success.
1.5 hours realizing it would fit in the lathe whole with only the bushing and doing the actual brake instalation.

:?

I think you should do them still Randall, just use the custom bushing, pull off the trigger and go to town. Actually seems like LESS work than doing a 700.... No disassembly really, just get right to sizing and fitting.

I’m one of them and it appears we’ll have a few more.. Personally I would like to go second (after the first shooter) so I can learn a few things before my shot if possible?

If it's a 3200, 10X, then it's GTG. Those are indestructible........

Yeah its the 3200 Elite 10X40mm Mildot. So far I am very happy with the scope. The glass has been quite clear out to 400+ yards, the clicks have been repeatable and positive each time I have used it and with the Nightforce 20MOA base and Burris XTR rings it's mounted perfectly so that when I get behind the rifle my eye is in the perfect position to get maximum clarity and field of view (the addition of an Eagle stock pack really helped get my cheek weld and eye position down - was worried I would need some sort of riser or stock saddle).

I'm very excited about this match. I've been checking and double checking my gear all day. I think I'll head to Turners today to see if they have any plastic ammo boxes to store my cartridges in, rather than use the Styrofoam packaging the ammo comes in.

I really need to practice my prone shooting. It's completely new to me and getting a proper grip on the rifle and getting it snug to my shoulder has been a challenge :) Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!

I will be. I'll very likely be bringing some additional firearms as well such as my Ruger Mark III and maybe some of my cowboy guns (I haven't shot my .45 Colt Marlin since I had Jim Bowie slick it up last year).

Use a backpack or improvise something to rest the rifle on. Even though I have a bipod I still sometimes shoot off of a carrybag for sideprone stuff.

Fantastic match guys. I had a LOT of fun. Everyone was super helpful and supportive. I received tons of great tips and advice. I couldn't be happier. I've got lots of new things to practice to shore up my fundamentals. I'll be sure to make it out to the beginners course later this month.

Thanks again to the guys that put in so much work to make the event possible.
