this new shooter intro is more for brand new people. The others you'll want to attend over and over to get more practice.

Better to ask a stupid question now that your unsure about then make false assumptions and make your self look like an ass later.

Nope.
It's a 3 month training cycle.
If you attend all 3 shoots in the 3 month cycle, you are pretty much ready for competition.
We start a new 3 month cycle, get this... every 3 months. ;)
I can count and figured that part out.

I just didn't want to wait 4 months for the next cycle.
If I can get my dope and zero down, can I jump into course B, or should I wait and go through it as recommended. (My buddy whose been through the course has gotten me hooked, and I can't wait to get my rig going and shooting with him)

Why dont you stick to him(your friend) like glue and learn as much as you can off of him until you can learn from a more experienced person. Your lucky brother all my friends dont shoot/dont like firearms :x

I would say wait and go thru the three courses in order.
I skipped the Intro course and haven't been able to make any. While its possible to learn w/o the intro course its a steep learning curve.
Im going to try and make it out this weekend for the lecture portion of the class.

Course B is open to anyone, but you will be behind the curve if you have not shot course A first.
Course C requires you to have shot Course A first.

Would it be useful to attend even without a rifle to use? I'd like to gleen some of the basics and be able to start off shooting right than try to unlearn some bad habits later on. Would that be alright?

Non-shooters are welcome of course and you will still learn a bunch even if you are not shooting.
Non-shooters can jump in on the BBQ for $10, but please RSVP in this thread that you will want BBQ, but will not be shooting.

For Saturday the 25th-- I have all my gear ready to go. Please count me "IN" for the BBQ, as I'll be there... whether I'm able to shoot or not. FYI, I'm planning on bringing everything just in case a spot opens up. If not shooting, I plan to watch and learn and help out where able-- I'll also have my Kowa spotting scope that can be used to help spot shots, etc. See ya on Saturday!

I would like to thank everyone that made today possible I had a lot of fun and learned quite a bit. I think I did pretty good overall considering today was the first time I've ever shot over 100 yards and the 3rd time I've shot my bolt action rifle. Again you guys are great and I am HOOKED! See you all next month! Oh and kudos to the cook the chicken was pretty damn good!

I'd like to pile on feedback from Juice... aggree, had a great time and everybody was friendly. Most importantly, it was fantastic how the "seasoned" CAPRC members helped out each new shooter. Scope adjustments, DOPE assistance, calling shots (Thanks Conner)-- heck even a quick trigger adjust (Thanks, Randal). Really appreciate the efforts by all involved, from the range coordination to the wonderful BBQ lunch. That was a nice break. Thanks to everyone that made this event such a success. It'll be fun to get some hand-loads worked up and try this again! Nothing like that .50 cal I was able to try...

...but then again my .338 Win Mag is a probably a bit more practical [in most instances].

Wow.
If I had to sum up the day with one word, that would be it.
It's very rare to run into a group of folks that are as helpful and as hospitable as our CaPRC hosts were today. They made us newcomers feel comfortable and welcome in addition to having tons of information to impart in an easy to understand manner. I learned ALOT.
If I tried to name everyone, I'm sure I'd accidently leave someone out, so I'd like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of you for everything....and for the loan of some of the equipment and BBQ, too.
Charles

Ok, so I guess it pays to be the last one to leave...I found the club banner, a small knife, brown towel and a box of FGMM ammo with some reloads in it....If ya'll are coming to the night match, I will bring it, otherwise I will hang on to it....
Everyone did a great job...Always great to have a day with no major safety violations. I know that we seemed to spend a long time at 500, but like Randall said, that will be the most accurate dope that you have since it was the smallest target...
Excellent food, good fellowship and good times....great day....

Excellent.
I realized it was missing while I was unloading my truck.
I was going to text Ben to walk over to the line and grab it for me if it was still sitting there.

Brad, thanks again for letting me borrow your shooting mat for the day. I passed it off to Randall since you left earlier.
See you all at the next shoot.

Or can I just show you guys what I know?

Anyone with formal rifle training such as marines get would be exempt from the pre-requisites.
We will expect you to know what you are doing though and we will administer appropriate shit if you don't. ;)
The purpose of the pre-requsites is so that an untrained newb does not hold up everyone else over simple stuff that they would know if they had attended the earlier clinic.

Thanks to everyone who helped out in fueling my addiction. All of the info that you gave was great and too see it all come together was the best part. The info was as delicious as the BBQ was. Now I just have to wait for Connor to order his damn action and get everything assmbled so i can go out and have some more fun with all of you guys.
Thanks again, Nick

I've been shooting firearms for a while, home building AK's, etc, and I have to admit that this has been the most fulfilling thing I've done with guns. No more pointless shooting. I think that the experience wouldn't have been possible if wasn't for all the great people involved in making it possible, from the instruction to the BBQ. The class was also small enough that each person received the necessary attention and help. Thanks again, fellas. I'll be attending the next two meets and will hopefully contribute in the future.
Cheers!
