i dont know if I buy some of those photos.... In the guy upside down, notice how the slace in the rope by his right leg is hanging flat, not upside down... same with the pants around the ankles and if I could see it clearer, I'd bet his shoelaces too.....

Steve, before you say that Jacob is "faking" these pictures, you may want to look at the lead line attached to his harness. It's pretty tight if you ask me.
Also the line that is slack is the tag line end of the tie off point to his harness. That same goes for the rope that is hanging past his body.
If you take a look at the harness, its pretty freaking tight on his legs.
Take two seconds and look at the background. If you turn the picture so he is flat on his belly and not hanging upside down, the terrian/backround wouldn't make sense.
Be a lil more careful if you are going to call folks out on faking shots.

I did turn it and it could match either way.... What ever, if somebody wants to hang upside down to make a shot, so be it... but the rope by his right leg is slack and not hanging.... thats what I am referring too....

Because the rope is pinned or slagged by his right leg.

but then again, what do I know, other than that I would never hang upside down to make a shot and I have never down rope climbing....

Steve, you haven't spent much time in the mountains or working with ropes huh?
I've done a decent amount off rappelling and can tell you ropes don't always hang straight because you are on the face of a mountain.
Jacob of RO is not some mall ninja that is going to fake a pic. If you knew the man, and the guys that he is training with, you probably wouldn't spew a bunch of BS you have 0 idea about.

If I get more than 10 feet off the ground, I am scared.... Your right, the only rappeling I have done was at the carnavil off the ring the bell at the top tower..... (LOL) I do not know Jacob, but I have only see vid's of people taking his classes and being tipped upside down and having water poured over their faces.... but I am sure that is not representative of his training...
I guess I am wrong... Sorry...

Hanging upside down is called "Austrailian" it was developed so you could fight while rappelling/absailing downa rope instead of the normal shoot me position iwth your back to the threat. I know this from doing far more of it than I wish I had.
These are great photos. Thanks for sharing. Jacob is showing some very good technique here

I never had the balls to go face first.....seen it done, but only gone down with back to the ground. For a guy that hates heights, that was enough for me in full kit and ruck.

good job for going even though you hate heights... I need to overcome my fear of heights that way. I was going to be a paramedic instead of a nurse, but knowing about towers and ropes and climbing/jumping made made go a different route...

Mike, have there ever been any documented shootings that you are aware of while employing this technique..?

It was deeloped by Australian Military for the ability to rapppell and still be in position to fight as you come in. Mostly a coming out of Helicopter technique. I dont how many if any time combatants actually fired from this position but it serves a purpose.
In this case it is used to tie off a shooter so he can get a good shot off while on bad rock face. Jacob is showing it in an extreme position I believe to make a point and give the guys confidence in technique and more importantly the ropes.
For many years I went to SWAT training at least once a month ( not counting sniper training which was seperate) Almost ever training event we practised Rappelling. Over the years I wnet on more than a few SWAT Entries and never once used Rappelling but if I had needed to I would have done so as if it was second nature.
Train for worse hope for best really does apply.
Vu, I never once liked going off the rope face first. You do an opps backwards and but is sore. You do it face first and you end up as ugly as me. The first time they sent me off on a rope someone snapped a photo that looked like I had bitten onto side of a 14 story building to hold on. Was scared out of my mind as I hate heigts as well. It became easy to do when I knew equipment would hold me.
