CaPRC Marksmanship Clinic "B" 8-12-12

Come on out and join us at Angeles for the 2nd part of our new precision rifle shooter series of clinics on Sunday August 12th.
This shoot will have you gathering dope from a 100yd zero out to 600yds as well as work on spotting and calling shots and making corrections from calls.
We wil be continuing with using the features of the scope and how to make accurate soft dope from your hard dope using ballistics software.
You need to have attended (as a shooter) one of our former "A" clinics during 2011 or 2012 in order to attend this clinic as a shooter.
We will limit this to 24 shooters so that those shooters can get maximum range time.
Fees are $50 for non members or $40 for club members.
The entry fee covers the classroom sessions, cold drinks and BBQ lunch and your use of the range for the rest of the day after the clinic is over.
Plan on a full day as the schedule has us shooting until at least 3pm.
You may particpte as a non-shooter, observe the shooting portion of the day and join us for the BBQ for a reduced $20 non-shooter fee.

Image

Tentative schedule as follows:
7:15 Sign-in
7:30 Classroom session on the firing line.
8:15 line goes hot. verify, correct and zero knobs at 100yds (5-10 rds)
10:00 open shooting time with instruction as needed
12:00 BBQ lunch break
1:00 open shooting time with instruction as needed

Some things to bring:
Precision rifle wearing a scope with target knobs, eye/ear protection, sunscreen, chamber flag, 80 rounds of match quality ammo, printout from a ballistics program showing your bullet drop in moa or mils as appropriate to your scope, shooting mat or blanket, bipod, some kind of rear bag or sand sock, small notepad and a pencil or pen to take notes.
Bring what you have, don't worry too much about what you don't have.
We always make do with what we have.

This is a Precision Rifle event so if the gun/scope/ammo is not capable of shooting 1moa groups, it will detract from your overall experience at the shoot.
Please have your rifle zeroed at 100yds and your knobs set to zero before you arrive on the day of the shoot.
We will verify a correct zero at the shoot, but it takes time that is better spent putting rounds on targets.

We are also looking for our experienced club members to show up and help instruct.
If you are able to help on the line, please RSVP anytime.

RSVP's for CaPRC club member shooters will be accepted after 12 noon on Wed 8/1/12.
RSVP's for non club member shooters will be accepted after 12 noon on Friday 8/3/12.
Any RSVP's posted before those times will be ignored or deleted.

I have never shot the a clinic but would like to attend this. I have shot a couple matches and feel I have a good grasp of the basics. Would I be able to attend this?

Gotta apologize to the forum. I have a family thing to do that day so I won't be able to make the clinic anymore.

Looks like it should be a nice group with about 10 shooters and 5 line helpers.
See ya all on sunday.

I was going over a few notes and got confused about something that was covered in the class. I am useing shooter for my Android phone. I was wondering in the ballistics software do we use Station Pressure or Barometric Pressure? If I use Sation pressure I can not enter an altitude and need to have the pressure is absolute marked. Is this correct?

You want to use station pressure.
When you use station pressure, you do NOT enter an altitude.
If entering an altitude is still an option, enter zero feet as the altitude.

Station pressure is an absolute pressure, so yes, the option "pressure is absolute" should be checked.

Thanks for such a quick answer. Now to setup the Kestrel to show the station pressure not the barrametric pressure.

Good info here:

http://www.nkhome.com/support/instructions/k3500.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Specifically, THIS:
ABOUT BAROMETRIC PRESSURE AND ALTITUDE ADJUSTMENTS

The Kestrel Meter measures "station" pressure-the actual air pressure in the measurement location-and uses this value to calculate barometric pressure and altitude. Station pressure changes in response to two things-changes in altitude and changes in the atmosphere. Because the Kestrel Meter is constantly changing location and altitude, it is important to enter adjustments or "references" when accurate pressure and altitude readings are needed.

Barometric pressure is station pressure corrected to sea level. In order to make the correction, the Kestrel Meter needs an accurate reference altitude. Altitude is the height above sea level. In order to correctly calculate altitude, the unit needs an accurate barometric pressure reference, also known as an "altimeter setting". Fortunately, you only need to know ONE of these values (current barometric pressure or current altitude) in order to set your Kestrel Meter up to show accurate readings.
All you need to do to get station pressure to read out is to set your reference altitude to zero feet.

The 4000 or 4500. They are the ones that will give you the density altitude.
