Who would have thought this was possible?

So... I went and shot the monthly match in Phoenix earlier this month.. 2nd stage of the match 3 targets, furthest shot is 1030... 1st shot is perfect elevation but 1Mil short...cycle the bolt and hold 1 more Mil over and push the bolt forward..resistance encountered... break my hold and look down in the action and this is what I see...
The only thing I can think of is after the round fired I cycled the bolt slowly as I was paying attention to where the miss was... I guess when the round ejected it hit the windage knob, flipped 180 degrees and landed back in the action... I had a double feed and the fired round ended up going back in case head first...
Has this ever happened to anyone before?
Had to clear this with a cleaning rod....

I know... that's what I thought... lol...
Went back the next day and hit that target and several others out to almost 1300 yards with some angle compensations....

What you described is probably exactly what happened; the case was kicked out by the ejector, it flipped around, hit the windage knob and rebounded back into the port. Look at the bottom of the windage knob for a bunch of small nicks/rash. The cases are not hitting the rear bridge of the action as I don't see any marks on that. Just run the bolt back faster and the case will have enough energy to bounce away.
BTW what does this mean? "1st shot is perfect elevation but 1Mil short"

Common problem when your stock's length of pull is wrong.
The brass comes out of the chamber, hits the windage knob and flips back into the chamber.
If your stock's length of pull is actually correct, the ejector and extractor need to be re-worked to lower the ejection angle.
You still own me a 700 extractor by the way...

I could be remembering wrong but I think this happened when the case didn't first extract and then you were finger fucking the chamber and mag to get it going again somehow twisting the case around in the process. So I actually think you actually flipped it backwards yourself.

That was to clear the double feed. It was already in there from me pushing it in. ..

Steven,
Double check your LOP/eye relief. Generally issues like this can be solved by moving the scope knob forward or backward slightly.
The fact that there are many shooters running this scope on M700's and not reporting this issue points to something unique in your setup. Whether it is: where the scope is mounted or how the case is being extracted/ejected is something that needs further investigation. Look at the extractor on the boltface; where is the extractor claw in relation to the ejector and also in relation to the outboard lug (lug that would be closest to the ejection port)? Better yet, take a picture of the boltface.

Stevens scope looks to be about the same spot my Gen2 Razor is mounted. I've never experienced this issue.

I just think it was me ejecting slowly..although I have my scope very low so the distance to hit the windage knob is very little

Lol.. So I went out to my garage and tried to duplicate the problem...
If I slowly pulled a fired case out, I could get it to pop back into the action, but not backwards... that must have been a freak occurance.. I guess I have to be more aware of this. ..
