Timed Stages

Post by AR15barrels »

Timed stages are coming to the CaPRC club matches.
I picked up a 10 lane timer that will allow 10 shooters to fire at once and then individually stop their times when they finish.

It's the same system that Mark used at SCPRC.
Now I just need to make those nice big button boxes.
I'm also going to investigate making it wireless as the wires seem to be the worst part of it.

We have done par time stages where everyone is given the same amount of time to do a stage. This would be timing the individual shooter to see who could do a stage faster. Question is, how much will time affect your score in the stage?

Time can be the tie breaker after hits.
So hits first, then time.

Points can be awarded according to rank.
Say we have 20 shooters.
Then say that we give the winner 20 points, 2nd place 19 points... last place 1 point.

Remember, hits first, then time so 5 hits in 60 seconds still beats 4 hits in 18 seconds.

so the system tracks each person's individual time? I saw those buttons/timers in Marks photo's, I wondered if we were going to get one....

Now all we need is a mover....

Randall, What is the exact model you picked up... Need to call and get some details on the input signals.

The Timer system works great and has held up for the last 3 years. Yes the wires are a nusiance, but it hasn't been a big deal. Wireless would be cool, but how much.

I got the button set up at Graingers and they work great for the timer.

Hoping to be able to do the wireless setup for a three hundred dollars or less, which still keeps the total timer cost down around $600.
I got buttons from a video game company that are 2" diameter and rated to be slammed all day by kids playing arcade games so those should last us forever.

They had white ones for $1 each on closeout for an led based illuminated model.
I really don't care what the illumination is because I'm not going to hook up the illumination.

I need to read the tech specs on the timer. If the buttons are start/stop wireless is very difficult. You cannot use a repeating signal and wait for a response. If one stop is missed we would have to reshoot the stage causing all kinds all kinds of issues.

It's a single momentary button for each lane.
There's a little router box that takes the 10 lanes and multiplexes them into a single connector that goes to the cord.
There's one IC and half a dozen resistors or capacitators on the circuit board inside.
The cleanest solution is to see what that IC is doing and replicate it along with a single reciever that talks to multiple transmitters.
