Signups start at 7:30am and shooting should start at 8:15am when the line goes hot.
Please arrive at the left side of the Angeles rifle range no later than 7:45am to sign-in and get assigned your shooter numbers.

The match fee also includes use of the range after the match is completed.
We usually finish by 1pm.
Bring 70 rounds of match grade ammo.
Be prepared to shoot as close as 10yds and as far as 600yds.

Bring a backpack to shoot off of for stages that don't allow a bipod.

This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rifles from 223 up through 308.
A velocity limit of 3100 fps will be in effect to reduce damage to club-owned steel targets.

Hey guys,

In to help.

New guy here just starting with precision rifle (lots of handgun, but zero long gun experience.) Scope is on order so no shooting for me, but would like to hang out and help while seeing what goes on at a match. More than happy to do whatever would be useful.

Awesome, John! I'm only 9 months into this myself, and the best way to learn is to come out & ask a LOT of questions. The club has a great bunch of folks with a lot of experience, more than happy to share their knowledge, so don't be shy! Hopefully you'll get your gear together and start shooting soon

Thanks Darren. I ordered a NF ATACR 5-25 F1. Due to ship on Aug 20. More scope than I know what to do with and more than I wanted to spend, but everything I read said buy once cry once and don't skimp on optics. I hope to grow into it skill wise and have the freedom to put it on a longer range caliber someday.

I had been saving for a nice 1911 for a while but decided I'd rather try something new than put another .45 in the rotation. So I went all in with a new .308 and scope.

Nice scope...I think most folks will tell you that you chose wisely. Which reticle did you get?

We could really use a few more dedicated spotters or range officers to make the day move along.
When we planned the COF, there were only 6 RSVP's so the COF got planned with lots of single-shooter stages.
Now that there are 16 shooters, I had to redesign the COF to break into two groups to get through the match in a timely manner.
This leaves us short on line crew and dedicated spotters.

I had a great time watching. Thanks for letting me lurk around.

I would have had more fun shooting, but I did learn a bunch:

1. COF was way more challenging than I expected. I don't know what I expected, but it probably involved a lot more laying on my gut.
2. I need to find a way to get a Detach. Mag in my rifle given all the positional changes and 10 rnd stages.
3. Way more accessory gear than I imagined for shooting positional stuff (bags, slings, etc)

Hope to have my gear set up next month and give it a try.

Thank you for coming out. Some comments to your comments:

1. Since it's a Square Range, the Match Directors (MD's) need to doing something different to build difficulty in. And there is F-Class for belly bench crowd.
2. What kind of rifle do you have? I probably have something to set you up with a DBM.
3. Don't be a gear whore. Get a good sling and a couple different bags then work on building your basic positional skills. There was an EXPLOSION of different bags and packs the last 3-4 years from shooters looking for that edge in Big Matches. Club matches are about building skills, not just trying to win. You'll pick up stuff as you go.

Get out and compete. Don't wait until you're ready; if you do that you'll never be. It's not about where you finish. You are only trying to improve yourself.

This. After attending the clinics I knew I needed a several months (at least) of practice and some equipment upgrades before jumping into a match. But participating in a match is much better practice than any range day could be because of the courses of fire and the people.

Thanks to all who put together and worked yesterday's match, and congrats to Henry on the win!

Thanks for the advice. What I have so far: Rem 700 .308 with the factory installed H-S Precision stock, bipod, basic small rear bag, and the scope due in soon. That seemed good enough to jump in with. The DBM is the only other "must have" I came away from Sunday with.

I was looking at the HS DBM this morning because of the minimal fitting required. I can do minor inletting work, but not set up or skilled enough to do anything major.

Agree with just jumping in and getting experience. Hopefully next month.

Haha you must have seen me fiddling around with single loading. I ordered a DBM setup last week.

Some relatively inexpensive improvements that were suggested when I attended the clinics were a bipod lock (if you have a swivel model) and a muzzle brake.
