5/9/10 Angeles Match AAR

Post by AR15barrels »

Due to mother's day, we had a light turnout with only 10 shooters.
We were originally planning for only 7 shooters, but a few last minute folks jumped in.
With the extra shooters, we were running slower than expected so we dropped one of the more time consuming stages near the end of the day.
Total round count for the day was between 34 and 37 shots depending on how many shots were fired on KYL.
There were 585 points possible.

There were 8 stages of fire:
#1 25yd 3/4" dot cold bore (1) shot 60 seconds
The target: http://www.caprc.com/targets/25dot.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
30 points for a hit
Only 4 people got the cold bore shots.

#2 200yd hostage (4) shots 60 seconds
The target: http://www.caprc.com/targets/double-hostage.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
10 points per hostage taker hit in the square box
-10 points per hostage hit.

#3 Weakside 150yd little man - 308yd popper - 300yd popper - 308yd popper - 150yd little man (5) shots 60 seconds
10 points per hit.

#4 12yd 3/8" dot has to disappear in (5) shots 60 seconds
The target: http://www.caprc.com/targets/12dot.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
40 points if the dot completely dissappears.
Only 1 person made the dot completely dissappear.

#5 15yd Pistol plate (5) shots then transition to rifle poolballs (9) shots 90 seconds
The target: http://www.caprc.com/targets/poolballs.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
5 points per pistol plate hit.
10 points per poolball, 100 points if the 8 ball is also hit.
0 points if the 8 ball is hit and all the other solid balls are NOT hit.
Most people only made 1 hit on the pistol plate.
First and second place finishers cleaned the poolballs.

#6 100yd 5 dot option (5) shots 60 seconds
Points awarded per the target: http://www.caprc.com/targets/5dot2.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Dots are 1", 5/8" and 3/8" respectively.

#7 100yd KYL (1-4) shots 60 seconds
Points awarded per the target: http://www.caprc.com/targets/limitations.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Engage the octagons starting with the largest one.
Fire as many shots as you are comfortable with.
A miss on any octagon zeros the target.

#8 100yd barricade 2 shots standing unsupported, 2 shots standing supported, 2 shots kneeling and then 2 shots seated (8) shots 70 seconds
The target: http://www.caprc.com/targets/new-barricade.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Results were as follows:

379 James
274 Brad
262 Jesse
216 Randall
142 Zach
138 Mike
118 Nic
114 Ben
100 Charles
81 Conner

What would that stage have consisted of?

Thanks again Randall and Brad. Good times

lol tough love Randall

Although I'm gonna give you a valid pass to pull the excuse card with the scope i will agree with Randall because the scope didn't go down until almost the end of the day man :oops: Plenty of time to rack up more points

I really wish you wouldn't have pulled that round apart in your action. It would have been interesting to confirm your troubles with another shooter.

A great day for sure! I'm really glad Randall and Brad got to shoot this time as well instead of just running us all. Lessons learned from my second match.

1. After the match I'm NOW understanding SFP vs. FFP after much reading and thinking of getting a new scope. I ran in to a lot of problems trying to MIL with my SFP Nikon Buckmaster and didn't know why... No wonder I had trouble at 15yd, 25 an 300 when trying to MIL instead of dialing some in or knowing the proper zoom to use. Noob alert.

2. A real rear bag and proper cheek height/weld are absolutely critical. I faired much better this time around after having those in.

A huge improvement over last time, all I need to do is get on the line a lot more to stay consistent and keep improving. Pics coming tomorrow.

Sounds like a great match. Bummed I missed it. But I scored lots of bonus points with the wife for sticking around. That ought to buy me a few more matches on important days in the future. Good shooting James. Hope that Premier holds up.

Thanks man. I hope it holds up too :? Hopefully NF will have their big daddy ready before it goes TU.

+1 on the bonus points. I got reminded that I'm running low on them last night as I was telling her about shooting 4 weekends straight this month :|

From the rumors, its going to be fall before anything hits the shelves. And even then, there's no guarantee that its going to be the end-all everyone hopes for.

I say we all start campaigning for the gen II XR in the F1 or in the new 5-22 FFP. They're doing horus reticles now (fricken boneheads) so the gen II shouldn't be hard.

Well I'm sure if enough emails flooded their inboxes with reticle requests anything is possible. BTW lets hope its the end all be all scope. The industry is due for one already.

Thinking of how slow Nightforce is on the uptake, it would probably be much easier to get a Gen II XR in there as there would probably be a much larger demand.

Hopefully I can begin making some of these matches.

The problem with the Horus reticle is the HUGE upcharge! That is totally ridiculous!

Yep. They are quite proud of their stuff but their scopes are shit. The Gen II XR in a USO is the same price as any other reticle upgrade (GAP, MDMOA, etc.) AFAIK.
