Desert Marksmen 1k yd results from 7-31

Post by bcrich »

Today were the best conditions ever, hardly any wind. 34 shooters total and we have to give it up to our own Ray Riganian who took 1st in the magnum class with an amazing perfect score of 250-16x Awesome Ray! shooting his 338NM. First place in non magnum class was Adam Rowe with another amazing 249-18x, Adam forgot his ammo at home and borrowed Mark Fisk's 30'06 AI and just drilled it......who says 30 cals suck??? ha! ha!

Brich,

Was this on a HP Palma Target or 1/2MOA XRing F-Class Target?

I'm pretty sure they still use a fullsize iron sight target.
They did when I shot it last.

Yes Vu, they do not use the F T/R targets.... So that X ring is large, but still, winds can be very switchy out there....

The x ring is 10 inchs in dia, indeed the cond. was good but the wind switched
3 times on my relay , there was enough wind to push your bullet out of the 10
let alone the x ring, those shooters who did not pay attention to it shots were
landed in 9 and 8 ring , some even off the target.
It was fun.

It was a beautiful weekend to shoot that's for sure..

It did appear to be calm but there was certainly enough going on to push me POI around in the 8's a few times..Had me baffled a few times..

Ken and I were on the last 2 relays and it appeared to be a bit more challenging in that second half. Can't wait for the next one..

Congrats on your win Ray, great shooting. I want one of them 338's soon!

Oh Ok, I was almost about to say that has to be some type of new world record on a F-Class 1/2 MOA X Ring.

Good shooting.

I'll take any day where there are only 3 changes in the wind in the entire relay. We get 3 different winds in a 45 second/3 shot string sometimes up here.

You guys should do the F-Tactical Match during march madness up here next year. 4 man teams and individuals. Great event and time with the HP folks.

The previous match had 308's as 1,2,3 place winners including my 13yr old daughter taking 3rd. I find myself saying if only I could have shot 1more x I would have won ha! ha! the story of my life.

That's awesome.

Personally, I think Tac rifles 308win should shoot on the Palma Targets.

Open Class Tac Rifles should shoot 1/2MOA F-Class targets.

I think that is what we're going to do for F-Tactical this year at March Madness.

Vu, Dont you guys have a regularly scheduled F-Class match every month?

Also, Nathan was telling me that your berms are set up so that they are directly infront of each other so you get better mirage reading? Are you a watch the flag person or mirage...?

Yes, Jim has F-Class shoot along side the HP guys.

As for the wind, it all depends. Sac Valley is one of the hardest ranges to shoot in the wind no matter how many flags get put up.

Ask about his last outing up here.

Flags 1 way. Wind on your face different. Mirage down range different.

When conditions are twitchy up here, its not uncommon to see all 25 targets come up with black spotters.

March Madness is the biggest HP event on the west coast. It is one month long of HP/Palma/ and F-Class matches. The 1K range is booked solid and you can find a practice, match or event most almost any day of that month.

We typically try to make a strong showing at March Madness now that F-Tactical is a class in itself.

Grab a bunch of your guys and come up for the 4 man team event. That was a great time last year. You can have 4 guys shooting 308win 175gn, or 4 guys shooting in Open. All rifles have to be Tac rigs. No F-Open guns or Palma rifles with scopes on them.
