Re: CaPRC 12/12/10 Match AAR
Well what a gorgeous day for a match up at (ASR). I have been waiting to get up there and I am glad this was the match. I had a great time as did many of the others. I had a few good stages and a couple bad ones too, but that's the game. Wild Man Ryan did it again, since nobody else wanted First Place he decided to take it. Hey folks, if nobody wants it, I think he will continue to keep taking them, why not. Good job Ryan. Stick to what works and don't look back. ;)
I enjoyed myself and since I haven't shot since TPRC in February of this year, it felt good to hear the beep, feel the recoil and smell the expended gunpowder. Seeing some hits on target doesn't hurt either.
Thanks CAPRC guys for putting on a great match, I needed that. Here are some pics below, enjoy.

This was my first match with the club and I had a great time. Thank you all.
Here's Ryan and John going at it on Stage 5:
Stage 9 (dot drill)
If you wonder how Ryan does it, he moves at supersonic speed:

The results:

That's right:

Great pics.
Had a great time today. Thanks to Brandon, Randall and Brad for laying down their rifles to run the line. Excellent work with a full match. Great shooting Seth. Didn't think I had a prayer of catching you. You were on fire. Mark-great shooting for not having been behind a rifle in a while. I couldn't even tell. 5 rounds on the kyl was impressive.
I won't shoot the next couple months so you ROs can get some trigger time. Hope to have Kristi up to speed by then.

Re: CaPRC 12/12/10 Match AAR
Thank you to the match organizers for a great match. You guys bust your ass. I still wish there were some way that you could shoot the match as well as run it.
Congratulations to Ryan and Seth for their great performances.
To the rookies who shot their first match today, I'm glad you guys stepped up. I'm still in awe Ho scored fourth place in his first match. Unbelievable.
Here's Ho shooting the Stage Six hostage shots:
And the results on the paper:

Well done.
All of the pics that Ho and I snapped should be up later tonight or tomorrow morning, but here are some of my favorites.
This is the smallest steel target from the Stage Three swinging dots:

I wish I had my thumb or something else in there to show the scale. You guys know how small this last disc was. Whoever center-punched this target, you done good.
Keith's Stage Two flies:

That's more than five hits. There's a certain flow and order there that makes that target awesome.
Some GMT love:

I didn't know Sonny had a Wesley Snipes GMT with Jubilee bracelet. That's beautiful. Oh, and in case you doubt these watches are pieces of shit, note the times on them. They're off. So are the GMT hour hands. My date is also off.
And if you want to see some of your targets:

I'm bummed Target Nine is missing because Jose drilled it.

I tried to get them all, but I missed targets 21 and 22. Sorry about that.

Nice photo's guys....I would like to say thank you to Brad, Randall and Brandon (was on the wait list and ended up helping out) for running another excellent match....Curse you Randall and Brad for bringing in math and conversions..... I really ended up messing up and taking a shot at the eight ball when I wasnt sure that I had hit all the other solids and that cost me 60 points1. That took me from 4th to 8th, but I have never broken the top 10 before, so I am still pleased at how I did.. (thank you Kevin for helping me torque down my rifle).. Still positional ended up being a weak point along with the ranging stage... Still ended up having a good time.

Re: CaPRC 12/12/10 Match AAR
One little trick on the flies...
Start in the middle.
So many people start at the top or bottom.
What if your dope IS way off.
In the middle, at least you have a chance of accidentally hitting a fly on the edge and then you can make a correction based off that bullet impact vs. your aiming point.

A little too late no? oh wait, we might see these same flies in a few months at 70 yards.AR15barrels wrote:One little trick on the flies...
Start in the middle.
So many people start at the top or bottom.
What if your dope IS way off.
In the middle, at least you have a chance of accidentally hitting a fly on the edge and then you can make a correction based off that bullet impact vs. your aiming point.
 Thanks Randall.
  Thanks Randall.Ho Chung

Had a great time today. Thanks to Brandon, Randall and Brad for laying down their rifles to run the line. Excellent work with a full match. Great shooting Seth. Didn't think I had a prayer of catching you. You were on fire. Mark-great shooting for not having been behind a rifle in a while. I couldn't even tell. 5 rounds on the kyl was impressive.
I won't shoot the next couple months so you ROs can get some trigger time. Hope to have Kristi up to speed by then.

Thanks to the guys that ran the event, much appreciated.
I was lost half the time but I had fun and had a chance to see what equipment you guys have. Mikeinla was kind enough to let me peek through his scope and handle his rifle.

Randall,
If you don't mind, what were the sizes for the targets at 435 yard? I am trying to figure out where I went wrong. Or if I need a new reticle.

Re: CaPRC 12/12/10 Match AAR
Uh oh. I see now that I was shooting on the wrong target part of the time.
This may be a dumb question as I am relatively new to this, but why couldn't
the courses of fire be posted on the website, say a day in advance of the match?
That would be too late for someone to "practice" ahead of time but it would allow
shooters to come knowing what they had to do.

We post up a list of what you need for the match so you can be prepared.
If we were to post the COF, everyone is going to be suggesting how they want to change it.
It opens up pandoras box...
We always run the targets in columns, 2 shooters per stand.
You probably won't make that mistake again. ;)

Best I can recall...
The top one was 14 x 19
The middle one was 14.5 x 7
The bottom one was 22 x 10.5

A lot of the 2nd relay shooters did not listen to the description that told which target was which number as they measured the targets that were described to the first relay of shooters.AR15barrels wrote:

That was not made clear during the prep time. The order I heared was top to bottom 1, 2, 3. Positive I didn't confuse it with Even shooters as I wasn't even paying attention during their prep time.AR15barrels wrote:

In addition part of shooting our type of matches is to keep you on your toes. Listing to instruction is very important in the big matches.

You got 30 points for each number (width & height) being within 5% of the actual size, either above or below.
Some people got neither number right, some got one and a couple got both right.

A big part of the pressure comes from not knowing what the match will throw at you. Listening and reading the directions carefully... then remembering them during the course of fire is absolutely essential to getting points. These are half the battle of a match.
No match will post it COF ahead of time, it would be like the enemy letting you know where they were hiding. ;)

Very true, but I try to reverse that, and it kinda worked for me on this match. Because I don't know what to expect, I just relax and focus on guaranteeing the shot for that particular target. No thinking about the next stage, or how many points I missed on the previous stage and wondering if there are other stages ahead of me that will let me make up for the lost points.MichaelV wrote: A big part of the pressure comes from not knowing what the match will throw at you.
