Re: Match at Angeles Ranges 4/11/10
Ben is in. I just don't know what I can shoot. .308 barrel is shot out and only 2500 rought hrough it. I've got a Surgeon action, 265 Charklie sold me his Kreiger .243 (at Randal's) and Randalls out of town until Saturday night. This week I'm getting out of the ffl a Alexanmder arms on AR 15- 6.5 grendel so I guess it will be a perfect time to work out the kinks, site in. Ammo is very tight and hopefully some will be in by sunday.

$25
Less than 50 rounds, probably more like 35, but the course of fire has not been determined yet.

No other fees.
The club takes the signups directly and then pays the range fees.
Do not sign-in at the range house this time.

I would bring 50 rounds to be safe.
I have 30+ round count with just one steel stage so far.

What yardage will this match be at? I have dope on steel out to 600 roughly, but not necessarily on paper... either way I'd still really like to get my feet wet in a match, never shot in a match before and I live right by Angeles and shoot there all the time. Thanks!

Yes you are welcome to attend, and please be there by 0830. We need to get a head count and every body to sign ASR releases.aermotor wrote:Am I welcome if I can make it or should I get in on a few of the Sunday get togethers? What's the latest arrival time?
Don't pay at the office, we handle that.
First rounds down range around 0915.

Heh yea, that would be ideal, not sure if I have time before then, but good idea thanks. I really need to get out to the SUnday events and get my theory skills up for sure, that would help me immensely.

I am really trying to attend this match....working on the boss to see if she will give me Sunday off...Reloading ammo just in case...should know by Friday PM....I do not have a sling or the cups to attach it, I do have the old attachment points on the bottom of the rifle....Does anyone have an extra sling with standard sling swivel attachements that I might be able to use?

I probably wont use mine much anyway.... you'll be fine without one. Start practicing holding your rifle offhand and dry firing at a small dot somewhere out the window of your house.aermotor wrote:No sling on my rifle, I'll have to deal.

Re: Match at Angeles Ranges 4/11/10
Yea okay cool. What are all of the different courses of fire you guys typically shoot? Is there sitting/standing unsupported?
Also, I might hit Angeles today to zero in around 3-4 if anyone else needs to go.

The course of fire is always different. Be prepared to shoot in any posistion possible up to and including behind your back and between your legs. Jkaermotor wrote:Yea okay cool. What are all of the different courses of fire you guys typically shoot? Is there sitting/standing unsupported?

Practical tactical is all about being prepared for anything. You never know what kinda kooky stages the match director will dream up. Have a good zero on your rifle and practice every posistion you can think of and practice is unsupported and supported. You never know but that's half the fun.

NDon't worry about it man. Your gonna have a blast. Starting Sunday I'd like to welcome you to the addiction. I'm sure we will be seeing you around much more
Come out with the interest in having a good time and meeting great people. Your going to quickly learn your weak points so you will have some thing to go home with along with some new friends as well. Even the Guy who comes in last place has an awesome time.

Yea I love being outside and at the range so (hopefully) no matter how good or bad I do, it's just gonna be good times. I'm a younger guy (26) and have just gotten into firearms over the last year and think I'm doing decent by myself, but really want to get into a group and learn as much as I can. Should be a blast.

Re: Match at Angeles Ranges 4/11/10
So I went to Angeles today to get re-zeroed in and also shot prone for the first time ever. Definitely tougher than from the bench by far, especially cause I have a cheap-o bipod right right now until my Harris comes in and not the best rear bag... We'll see how it goes Sunday, but I really need to spend a lot more time getting as much hard dope as I can and really getting my distances down on paper.
Things I learned today: 1) You must have the correct LOP in prone or it's hell, my shoulder weld sucks 2) I definitely need a cheek riser (improvised a folded rag worked for now) 3) Gotta keep good pressure forward on the bipod so follow up shots are possible and I don't lose the target entirely.
Anyway... Sunday should be fun either way, I'm really looking forward to learning from you all.

Loading the bipod will likely give you best results with a 308 but its best to experiment
