Action Pistol Match, July 12,2014

Post by CamW »

We will be having our Action Pistol Match this Saturday, July 12

We'll be doing something a little different this month, the match will be ALL STEEL knockdown targets. There will not be a shotgun stage , all handgun.
There will be 6 stages, about 25 rounds per stage.Last time we did this some of you almost ran out of ammo, so I would suggest bringing 250-300 rounds.

The basic rules for this Saturday:
10 rounds only in your magazines,1 in the chamber for both Open and Limited class.
Starting position is gun in hand, muzzle touching table.
Spare ammo may come from the table or your belt.

This is similar to a major match that's held in Pennsylvania.
Here's some videos so you can get an idea of what were doing.

Sign ups start at 7:45, shooters briefing at 8:30. there will be NO sign ups after the shooters briefing begins, so please be on time.

Post here or PM me if you have any questions.

Today's action pistol match was a little different, no more than 10 rnds in each mag ( you were allowed 1 in the chamber to start) 6 stages that were very challenging and fun especially for those of us that don't shoot our pistols as much as we should. I was on the same squad as my Mexican cousin Enrique Cancion and had a very good time. It would be awesome to have a squad with PBR shooters if you guys ever get a chance to shoot Cams matches you won't regret it.

Enrique Cancion shooting multiple loads mixed in his mags makes it very difficult to shoot consistently.

Good stuff!. I like the idea of the 10 rd max. Really levels the playing field. Hope to see more of that in the future. I'd be down to shoot on a PBR squad!

Out of curiosity what holsters are people running? Any specific features to look for? Got my first handgun the other day and this looks fun!

This particular day's match did not require drawing from a holster. Most matches do require drawing from a holster. The holster at a minimum must cover the trigger and hold the pistol securely. However you would want one that has some structure to ease reholstering, also a double thickness belt and magazine carriers for about 4 mags. Whether you want leather, nylon, kydex, etc is to your own taste & budget.

Pardon my ignorance but what's the difference between "open" and "limited" in pistol matches?

In simple terms, limited are pretty close to stock. Open is full on any mods you want like long slides, compensators, optics, etc. the rules vary be orginazations.

Open Class: Very little restrictions. As a result everyone runs optics and compensators. Also the belt "rig" is highly undercut and built for speed.

Limited Class: Very loosely, it means: No optics, no compensators; can also include shorter mags and other limitations.
subclass: Limited-10 (10rd mags)

There is also "Production Class" in some matches which has more restrictions, usually the pistols cannot have any major mods and appear essentially stock.

At LEAST 4 different kinds of ammo (different bullet weights, different powder, different bullet types). It was 10-15 year old leftover, range pickup, a bit of this , a bit of that all mixed together.

On top of all that, I was shooting a pistol that wasn't sighted in for any of it.

It's all shot up now, so I can load some fresh ammo.

Here's some videos of the Action Pistol match in our usual run and gun format.

Don't be intimidated by the guy in the videos, he's been shooting for a long time.
Come out and give it a try,you won't find a friendlier group of shooters.Plus it's the least expensive match fees of all the pistol matches around.
